Hardy Nickerson Jr. has just committed to Cal! Cal Football Recruiting 2012 got another great addition and legacy commit in Nickerson Jr. Yes, Hardy Nickerson Jr. is a Cal legacy, just like Bryce Treggs. Jr.’s dad is Hardy “The Dragon” Nickerson who was a great Linebacker for Cal in the 80’s and had a productive career in the NFL of 16 years. Hardy Nickerson Jr. picked Cal over Utah, Nebraska, and Colorado.
If Hardy Nickerson Jr. is as good of a football Cal player as his dad was, then Cal Football just picked up a great prospect that could blossom from a good to great linebacker. What we do know is that Hardy Nickerson Jr. has a great work ethic and always pushes himself.
Scouting Report to come in the next week.
After the jump, a couple quotes from around the web regarding Hardy Nickerson Jr.’s Commitment to the best public university in the world.
Here is a quote from Hardy Nickerson Jr. from this article. He also talks about how he made Jeff Tedford’s weekend when he informed him that he will go to Cal.
“I really like Cal because they’re well-rounded, with their great academics and
campus life,” said Nickerson, Jr. “I also really like all the change that’s
happening there, with the new coaches, new facilities and new stadium. It just
seems like there’s a new excitement coming to Cal football and I want to be a
part of it.”
He’s super excited to be a Golden Bear! That’s what we want from recruits, to have them think that something special will happen and they should be a part of it. I’m really optimistic about Cal Football 2012 with all these amazing recruits, and today was just another confirmation that Cal will be a stacked team in 2012, 2013, and maybe beyond. In case you wanted to know what Hardy Nickerson Sr. thought about his son committing to his alma mater (from the same article as above):
“It’s absolutely just amazing to have Hardy Jr. commit to Cal,” said
Hardy Nickerson, Sr. “He’s a great player and to watch him commit and go to my
old stomping grounds is just great. Words can’t express it.
“It’s totally his decision. Throughout the process, I’ve just been making
sure he had all the information he needed and he went through the process and
analyzed every opportunity and decided he wanted to be a Bear.”
Hardy Nickerson Sr. also talked about how he thinks his son is better than he was coming out of high school. If Jr. could be as good as a Cal Hall of Fame football player who went to 5 pro bowls in a long NFL career, then we should be ecstatic.
Make sure to check out Golden Bear Lair’s 2012 Football Recruiting Page which now includes Hardy Nickerson Jr. with a list of all Cal’s recruits with their grades from Scout, Rivals, and ESPN (all updated today).
