Chans Cox Recruiting Update

2013 outside linebacker recruit Chans Cox is one of the most talented and hottest prospects out west. The Blue Ridge High star in Lakeside, Arizona has a top eight and could dwindle that list down to a top five.

Those top eight teams for Chans Cox are Arizona State, Arkansas, Boise State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, and Washington. Not only is Cox a hot recruit out west, but his top eight shows that he is also a valued commodity in other regions of the country.

Although the California Golden Bears offered him, they are not in his list of eight and missed the cut. Other teams to have offered Cox and miss the cut are Arizona, Colorado, Duke, Oregon State, Tulsa, and Utah. It is safe to say that Cal is the best program left off of a great list of eight truly elite programs.

Some say that when Chans Cox whittles his list down to five, that Boise State, Nebraska, and Washington will be next to go. It is interesting to note that California was also seen by some as the fringe team that just missed the cut at ninth, which seems logical given their quality.

Still, it looks like the top five is wide open and the Broncos especially are not a team to discuss not being in the top five quickly.

The 6’3″, 230 pound recruit can play at running back, fullback, and inside or outside linebacker. However, he is best off playing outside. Chans Cox has great speed with a 4.5 forty, he can bench 315, squat 460, has a 4.31 shuttle time, a 30-inch vertical, and he has a 4.0 GPA.

This guy has insane speed, especially for someone with that size and strength. He can also play tight end and will be a monster at linebacker and can succeed wherever he plays. Cox is just that talented and whoever lands him is getting a heckuva player for sure. Cox is one of the top 150 recruits in the nation, one of the top ten OLBs, and one of the top five recruits in Arizona.

Back on the 25th of April, ManBearCal of California Golden Blogs on SB Nation wrote this bit about Chans Cox:

"Chans Cox, LB Blue Ridge (Lakeside, AZ). Yet another ideal ILB prospect at 6’3/220, Blue Ridge’s Chans Cox got a Cal offer a couple weeks ago. Cal joined a hefty offer list with the likes of Arkansas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Washington, UCLA, and now USC…who’s looking at Cox as a halfback. Not that crazy, considering Cox rushed for 862 yards and 13 touchdowns in his junior year. Still, he gained all-state recognition as a middle linebacker. He has a frame to add some good muscle and is a tackling machine already. He will be an early entrant at his school of choice, so a decision early in the fall is highly likely. There aren’t currently any plans for Cox to visit Cal, but there’s a long way to go in his recruitment."
