Arizona State Preview
By Editorial Staff
This week, Cal plays at home against the 3-3 (1-2 in Pac 10) Arizona State Sun Devils. ASU has had some good and bad games. They came close to beating #11 Wisconsin on the road (they lost 20-19). They also got blown out by Oregon. Last week, ASU got a good road win over Washington (24-14). ASU features the 15th ranked passing offense in the nation, led by junior Steven Threet. They feature 2 running backs in Deantre Lewis and Cameron Marshall. ASU has a good secondary, but their pass rush is absolutely terrible. In fact, they have only 7 total sacks this year, which is last in the Pac 10. Kevin Riley should have plently of time to try and find open guys. Going into this game, Cal also sports a 3-3 record (1-2 in the Pac 10). These 2 teams are very even and this should be a close game. After last weeks pounding against USC, I expect Cal to play a good game this week.
Things to Watch For: ASU kicker Thomas Weber has made 9 field goals, which is 2nd in the Pac 10, ASU punter Trevor Hankins averages 48.5 yards per punt, which is 1st in the Pac 10, ASU is 2nd in the Pac 10 with 50 penalties, Cal is 3rd in the Pac 10 with 17 total sacks, Although he isn’t having a great season, Kevin Riley has a passer rating of 136.7
My Predictions:
Cal wins 27-14
Shane Vereen will have 2 TD’s and he will have a game of 100+ yards.
Kevin Riley will throw for around 150 yards and have 2 interceptions.
