Recruiting: California gets Sami Eleraky
Seven foot center Sami Eleraky committed to the California Golden Bears and signed a letter of intent to join the team yesterday. The Danish center weighs 242 pounds averaged 6-6 for his club team in Denmark and averaged 5-5 for the U-18 team.
The soon-to-be 19-year-old will provided some good depth and is a quality big man to have. Eleraky had offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Marquette, North Texas, UAB, and UC Irvine.
Sami Eleraky should be able to step right in and contribute for the Golden Bears, because he has experience producing and getting some nice rebounding totals against a relatively high level of competition in Denmark. I mean, playing in a pro league in Europe is more difficult than playing high school basketball.
The 6’11”, 240 pound Dane had a huge game against Luxembourg in a 10-17 game, and his club team is the Aalborg Vikings. Sami Eleraky is a mammoth of a player and looks like a solid contributor at the college level. There isn’t much on him, but he was always interested in Cal and will be the most interesting player in the Pac-12 conference.
Eleraky is a good defensive player, and it will be interesting to see how he acclimates to the college game and if he is raw or if the Denmark league has prepared him for college ball.
