Preview: The Cal Golden Bears are not favored in this matchup. In fact Cal football is a 23 point underdogs. The one thing they have going for them right now is that Washington is in a bad way right now. They have lost three straight games, two of them were very winnable games, and are slowly being edged out of the Pac-12 North Division title race. In these three losses, Washington has given up 30 or more points, giving Cal’s high-powered offense an opportunity to win the game.
Cal wil need to overcome their impotency in the rushing department to make this game competitive. It will be a loud, ruckus atmosphere very much like that of the crowd at Autzen Stadium. The key will be for the rushing attack to keep Husky Stadium quiet, and take some pressure off of Goff and the passing game. The defense will have to contain Bishop Sankey in order to get the W. When it comes down to brass tacks, the performance of the run game will dictate who wins this game. If Sankey has a regular day at the office, Washington wins. If he plays down a bit and Bigelow/Muhammad have a good night, Cal has a shot.
Finally, this game doesn’t seem to really seem to be looking to favor the Bears. They will have to play their best game all season. Washington, meanwhile, needs this win (and one in two weeks against Colorado) to have a glimmer of hope for that divisional title. The once 4-0 Huskies are angry and embarrassed at how they played against Arizona State last week. No doubt that they will come out to play a solid game tonight. I see this one being slow to start, but a Washington rout with Cal getting a garbage time score or two to make the game look reasonable.
Prediction: Washington 37, Cal 27
